There are so many Beatles songs that are beyond-famous classics. I think anyone who’s really listened to The Beatles has noticed that there are some songs that don’t get much airplay or attention but are still great.
“I’m Only Sleeping” is one of those songs. If literally any other band put out this song, they would have been extremely famous. But it was The Beatles, and the song was on Revolver, crowded out by better-known classics like “Eleanor Rigby,” “Yellow Submarine,” “Got To Get You Into My Life” and “Tomorrow Never Knows.”
But take a listen. The close, dissonant harmonies, the backwards guitar - this was 1966. No one else was even imagining music like this. And The Beatles were putting out these songs like they were Stephen King novels.
